The Hope Farm to Host Cuban Chef Dinner on May 22

May 22 @ 12:00 am
The Hope Farm

Fairhope, Ala. — The Hope Farm will celebrate Cuba’s distinct culture, cuisine and historic connections to Mobile with an event on May 22 featuring a curated Cuban dinner by Executive Chef Leo Velazquez. On Friday, May 22, guests will be welcomed to the Barn at the Hope Farm with classic cocktails before enjoying a shared, family-style meal and a traditional Cuban dessert course. Chef Velazquez has created a thoughtful menu for the evening, highlighting the many bold and vibrant flavors of Cuban cuisine — from citrus-marinated meats and slow-roasted pork to sweet plantains and rich, aromatic coffee. As the official sister city organization between Mobile, Alabama, and Havana, Cuba, the Society Mobile– La Habana is supporting the event as part of its ongoing mission to promote cultural and educational exchange between the two Gulf cities and their communities. Members of the Society’s leadership will be in attendance to share more about the organization’s work in Mobile and its efforts to strengthen local ties to Cuba through the arts, culture, travel and education. Guests will also hear from noted local historian John Sledge, who will discuss themes from his latest book, Mobile and Havana: Sisters Across the Gulf. Written in collaboration with Cuban author Alicia Garcia-Santana, the book explores the shared heritage and cultural influences of the two port cities, featuring a stunning collection of photos capturing the similarities between Mobile and Havana. This is a perfect opportunity to enjoy an incredible dining experience and learn more about the region’s many ties to Cuba and its capital, Havana.
